Miami’s Best Kids Jiu-Jitsu Classes

Join us for this introductory martial arts class with Coach Mike Hirooka where children focus on self-awareness, self-control, and regulation. While traditional jiu-jitsu classes are based on ground fighting with an opponent, our kids program is centered on technique, positioning and the history of the sport. Children walk away from classes with increased confidence, focus and self-esteem.

Ages: 4+
Drop-off class. A caregiver must remain in Miami Beach and return to State of Kid five minutes before class ends for pick-up.

MIKE HIROOKA

You may have seen Mike Hirooka at the beach behind The Edition Hotel teaching kids how to surf. The adventurous Miamian is known for his hands-on approach to sports, including kiteboarding, surfing, skateboarding, jiu-jitsu and yoga. He’s like your kid’s cool older brother and makes being active fun and easy. The self-proclaimed ninja’s jiu-jitsu class is one of our most popular offerings.

Students will learn strategy, balance, coordination, and respect in our jiu-jitsu classes. According to Coach Mike, “Jiu-Jitsu is like human chess. You must use your body to the fullest advantage, and each move is like a chess move. You must be strategic because your opponent will seize the opportunity when you make a mistake.”

“I teach them how to win and lose with honor,” adds Mike. “It’s okay to lose, as long as they do their best. Be respectful to elders, listen and make eye contact. Essentially, how to be a better version of themselves.”

While martial arts uniforms are encouraged, they are not required. We suggest wearing loose clothes that are comfortable to move in.

How early should we arrive at State of Kid before the class starts?

We recommend that you arrive five to ten minutes before your class starts. We do have a steady flow of classes throughout the day, and we start promptly. Please don’t be late as it disturbs the other students and instructor.
