Checkmate! While exploring the fascinating game of chess, students (ages 5-7) will learn tactics and strategies, develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and challenge themselves. Time is divided equally between learning and playing, and participants will be divided into groups (after a preliminary assessment) based on skill level. Special activities span bughouse (team chess), chess stories and riddles, creative problem-composing and the history of famous chess games. All materials will be provided.
Feel the Power Chess Academy
Feel The Power Chess Academy is an educational organization whose mission is to teach and promote chess through community outreach and after-school programs. Instructor Diego Milla has been playing chess since a very young age and competes in the United States Chess Federation (USCF). He has taught chess, soccer and tennis for many years in after-school programs, as well as privately. Diego brings his passion for the revered game to his students with an interactive style of teaching that emphasizes logic, critical thinking and creativity.
